Preferred Network Connection

Sometimes as we join different wireless networks, we find that our ‘Preferred Network’ can be changed.

The ‘Preferred Network’ is the network that your computer will attempt to join first, followed by the rest of the networks in the order that they appear in the list.

To make changes to this list, please try the following instructions.

  1. Click on the Apple at the top left of your screen

  2. Select ‘System Preferences

  3. Select ‘Network

  1. Click on the ‘Advanced’ button at the bottom right of the Network window

  1. With the ‘Wi-Fi’ tab (far left tab) selected, you should see the ‘Preferred Networks’ list in the middle of the window.

  1. You will want to select the ‘USD444 Staff’ network, and drag it into a position that is above the ‘USD444 Network.’ By doing this you will ensure that your computer will join the attempt to join the Staff network first. (See above image)

  2. If your computer still continues to join the ‘USD444 Network’ instead of the ‘USD444 Staff’ network even after making the above changes, it likely means that the Access Point you are utilizing to access the network is not functioning as it should be.
